We are excited to announce a groundbreaking project led by the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (DIMA) at Sapienza University of Rome, in collaboration with Politecnico di Torino, and the Centro Nazionale per la Mobilità Sostenibile (MOST). The aim of this project is to develop an innovative, integrated drone swarming platform that will revolutionize urgent cargo transportation through advanced technology and sustainable mobility solutions.

In recognition of our expertise and proven track record, Auryn Aero has been chosen as the most qualified engineering partner to build the system and lead the engineering phase of this pioneering initiative.

DIMA’s Participation in the MOST Project

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (DIMA) at Sapienza University of Rome, with its extensive expertise in aerospace research, plays a crucial role in this collaborative project. Since 2017, we have maintained a formal partnership with DIMA focused on research and technological advancements. In this project, DIMA is tasked with developing advanced algorithms for high-level collective UAV navigation, payload stabilization and swarming trajectory optimization. These algorithms are essential for ensuring the stability and efficiency of drone swarms during flight, even in complex urban environments.

Auryn Aero’s Contribution

Founded in 2017, Auryn Aero confirms itself as an advanced aeronautical engineering and technology research company. Our role in this project is to build the experimental swarming system from scratch, incorporating both hardware and software components. We are developing multicopters with a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of approximately 5 kg, equipped with the latest sensor technologies for obstacle avoidance and precision navigation.

Our drones will be powered by NVIDIA technology, providing them with advanced AI capabilities. This technology enables the drones to perform autonomous flight functions, enhancing flight safety and enabling collective intelligence operations. The integration of mesh radio ensures robust communication between the drones, facilitating seamless coordination during missions.

Our primary objective is to demonstrate how swarms of drones can address major challenges in urgent cargo transportation. By leveraging numerical superiority and the ability to interchange units during flight, these drone swarms can efficiently and safely transport cargo, revolutionizing the logistics and delivery systems.

Additionally, we are developing custom software to manage and coordinate the swarm, ensuring that each drone operates harmoniously within the group. Our team is working on advanced algorithms that allow the drones to dynamically adjust their flight paths in real-time, responding to changes in the environment and mission parameters.

The Role of Politecnico di Torino

Politecnico di Torino, renowned for its excellence in engineering and technological research, is a key partner in this initiative. Their contributions include providing technological support and expertise that complement the efforts of both DIMA and Auryn Aero. This collaboration ensures that the project benefits from the latest advancements in aerospace technology and engineering practices.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting journey together.
